Our Approach

Recipe for a healthy state? Dedicated resources, smart policies, engaged residents and new perspectives on health.

Change doesn’t happen overnight or through a single strategy. It requires multiple approaches and committed people pulling together to achieve a common vision. We know we can’t create a healthy state on our own—but we’re happy to be part of the solution.

The Center for Prevention plays many roles. As a funder we provide significant financial resources to support initiatives that align with our goals. But we don’t just write a check. Our staff works directly with organizations to ensure they have the technical and subject matter expertise required to make the biggest impact possible. And, we learn a lot from them in the process.

We also know that state and local policies can greatly influence people’s decisions and their opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle. That’s why we advocate for smart policies—to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, create safer routes for our kids to walk and bike to school, and much more—and participate in health-related coalitions.

We also act as a convener and conversation starter. Our statewide focus enables us to connect people from all corners of the Minnesota—and everywhere in between. We bring people together to learn, share and discuss what’s working well and what’s still needed. And we use communications campaigns to encourage public dialogues and ultimately expand the way people think about health.

In schools, neighborhoods, out in the community and at the Capitol, we’re working to make Minnesota the healthiest state in the nation—for all of its people.
