We’re making Minnesota a healthier place to live, work and play.
Access to affordable, healthy food. Tobacco-free air. Walkable and bikeable neighborhoods. In some communities across our state, these things are a reality. In others, they are simply a reflection of what could be.
The Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is working to change that. Funded with proceeds from Blue Cross’ historic settlement with the tobacco industry, we’re tackling the leading root causes of preventable disease—at the community level.
Why? Because a lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating and tobacco use negatively impact Minnesotans’ lives every day. In fact, these three things contribute to more than 20,000 preventable deaths every year—and that’s in Minnesota alone.
Simply telling people to make healthier choices isn’t enough. Our communities—the people and places we surround ourselves with—make a difference. That’s why we collaborate, convene and fund others who are interested in addressing these pressing issues with us.
Together, we’re making our state a healthier place for all Minnesotans.
