Janel Brakke Payne has more than 18 years of public health experience in developing and implementing projects that support community-based policy, systems and environmental change strategies. This includes community funding programs aimed at increasing physical activity and healthy eating, and decreasing tobacco use, with a focus on increasing health equity.
As manager of Community Health and Health Equity Initiatives, she focuses on the strategy and execution of the Center’s cross-cutting programs. This includes the early childhood, K-12, community and health care transformation, and health equity in all policies initiatives. Most recently she has worked to operationalize equity and inclusion principles and practices into daily management and operations of the Center’s work. Brakke Payne’s career includes numerous accomplishments as a health educator and promoter for organizations in Minnesota and Iowa.
She received her B.S. in dietetics from Iowa State University and her M.A. in community health education from the University of Northern Iowa.
