Janel Brakke Payne has more than 15 years of public health experience in developing and implementing projects that support community-based policy, systems and environmental change strategies. This includes community funding programs aimed at increasing physical activity and healthy eating, and decreasing tobacco use, with a focus on priority populations.
As manager of community initiatives, she focuses on the strategy and execution of the Center’s cross-cutting programs. This includes the new early childhood, K-12 and community-clinic collaboration initiatives. Brakke Payne’s career includes numerous accomplishments as a health educator and promoter for organizations in Minnesota and Iowa.
She received her B.S. in dietetics from Iowa State University and her M.A. in community health education from the University of Northern Iowa.
