A healthier Minnesota means increased health equity.

Health Equity in Prevention (HEiP) funding and technical assistance helps Minnesota communities facing disparities reach their full health potential. Here are examples of recent HEiP programs funded by the Center for Prevention: 

  • American Indian Cancer Foundation — initiatives to reduce tobacco use in American Indian communities statewide.
  • Appetite for Change — reducing nutrition-related disparities in North Minneapolis by improving food systems.
  • Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio (CLUES) — addressing disparities in tobacco use, healthy eating and active living among Latinos statewide.
  • Cycles for Change — working to make physical activity, particularly biking, more accessible in diverse low-income communities in St. Paul and Minneapolis.
  • Hennepin County — community-engagement efforts to ensure considerations about health equity and supports for active living are part of the planning for the Bottineau Line of the light rail system.
  • Hope Community — expanding urban agriculture, supporting community engagement and deepening leadership for food systems change in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis.
  • Just Us Health — working to reduce tobacco use and other health disparities unique to LGBTQ communities, formerly Rainbow Health Alliance.
  • NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center — advocating for smoke-free multi-unit housing policies and reducing point-of-sale of tobacco products in North Minneapolis.
  • The Open Door — making healthy food more readily available to Dakota County residents who struggle with food insecurity.
  • Pillsbury United Communities — focusing on strategies to increase healthy eating and active living in the Phillips neighborhood, where residents experience deep disparities.
  • Vietnamese Social Services of Minnesota — reaching out to Vietnamese, Karen, and Lao business owners to promote smoke-free grounds policies and the benefits of cooking with less sodium and MSG.
  • West Side Community Organization — engaging communities to tackle food insecurity issues in West St. Paul.
  • Zeitgeist Center for the Arts and Community —facilitating a neighborhood-driven effort to address food access in the Lincoln Park community of Duluth.
