The Cost of Smoking Report

The Cost of Smoking report estimates the loss of life and economic costs due to cigarette smoking in Minnesota in 2021.
While the prevalence of smoking in Minnesota has consistently decreased, smoking causes thousands of premature and preventable deaths and results in billions of dollars of expenses in Minnesota annually.

 

  • Smoking takes the lives of more than 6,500 Minnesotans each year. It’s up to us to reduce the burden that smoking and other commercial tobacco-related health inequities put on our state.
